Images hosted on another server/domain - INSTRUCTIONS
  • Sam+RohnSam Rohn July 2011
    hi all -

    we've had some questions about hosting images for html5 panos on a server other than the server hosting your panopress install, and i think i have come up with a solution

    see this example - http://test.panopress.org/?p=25 <- remote server images working on ipad

    in the above example, wordpress, panopress, the krpano swf, iphone.js & xml are all hosted on one main server, and the image files are hosted on a second remote server

    xml file is embedded normally, like this -

    [pano file="kaski-sultan/kaski-sultan.xml"]

    xml, swf & iphone js files are hosted locally to the panopress install, like so

    image files are on another server, like this

    the trick is to specify the absolute url to the images in the xml, like so

    <image>
    <left  url="http://www.nylocations.com/_sam/pp-test/kaski-sultan/kaski-sultan.tiles/pano_l.jpg" />
    etc

    you will also need to upload a crossdomain.xml file to the site hosting the images, allowing the site requesting the images (the site hosting panopress, swf, xml, & js)

    (note that crossdomain.xml is only needed for flash swf panoramas, it is not required for html5 js panos)

    to create a crossdomain.xml file, create a text file named "crossdomain.xml", and paste in the following text

    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM "http://www.macromedia.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
    <cross-domain-policy>
    <allow-access-from domain="*.MY-DOMAIN.COM" />
    </cross-domain-policy>

    note the bit about MY-DOMAIN.COM, this must be replaced with the name of the domain hosting wordpress & your krpano swf, xml, & js files

    upload this file to the root of the domain hosting your images

    more info on crossdomain file here - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14213.html

    or use this link to make your crossdomain.xml - http://www.crossdomainmaker.com/

    panoramas displayed with panopress should now display remotely hosted images in flash & html5 without any errors

    please let me know if this solves the issues people were having

    thanks :)
